Surdu Drops Latest Single "New Digs," to Be Featured on WiFi PR's Indie Anthems Vol. 5

Experimental electronic music artist Surdu aims to confront the status quo with zany but carefully calculated music, and his track “New Digs” will be featured on WiFi PR Group’s digital compilation Indie Anthems Vol. 5.

Las Vegas, NV -- (SBWire) -- 04/04/2014 --Glitchy, mind-bending electronic music comes to life at the keen hands of Ann Arbor, MI’s own experimental, intellectual artist, Surdu. Surdu challenges the general perceptions of what music can feel and sound like with his out-of-the-box renditions of electronic music sounds set to the motion of a psychedelically influenced mind.

After years of transcending time and space, Surdu has descended from the astral plane on a groovy mission to spread good vibes and wisdom throughout the universe. With a mind focused on the emotive and visual possibilities of music as a whole, Surdu’s sound envelops listeners in a world full of color, mystery and depth. He pushes the limits of individual sounds and explores their order, rhythms and speed, varying from disjointed sonic arrhythmia to more grounded and melodic beats and all that’s in between.

Surdu has looked to a wide range of influences to create this distinct sound, including Flying Lotus, with whom he dreams of performing and touring with, as he feels that Flying Lotus fans would have a special appreciation for his music. His top 10 also includes artists like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, Of Montreal, Ravi Shankar, Shlohmo and MGMT, among others.

Surdu has recorded and self-published a number of singles and EPs throughout his career. His EPs include his debut, The Andronicology (2010), followed by This Is Psychetronic Music (2012) and, most recently, The Genius (2013). Singles include “Radioactive Sandwich Spread” (2010), “The Shroomery” (2012), “Beard City” (2012), “8-Bit Jackson” (2012) and “Revolution” (2013).

His latest single “New Digs” was, like many of his other tracks, heavily psychedelically influenced. He crafted it to shape the visual patterns of individuals experiencing synesthesia, which is a neurological condition in which the stimulation of one sensory modality elicits a sensation or experience in another. In this case, synesthesia would mean the ability to hear music and see images inspired by those sounds.

Surdu actually had a chance to bring this idea to life with what he deems to be his greatest accomplishment: his multimedia installation that debuted in the University of Michigan’s Duderstadt Center in 2013. Within this installation, he created an immersive virtual reality environment with isochronic brain entertainment tones placed throughout. His idea was to allow users to freely explore an enormous abstract universe (which spanned thousands of kilometers in virtual space) that not only provided virtual sculpture to look at but a way with which to look at it. In the future he hopes to use similar methods to create live concert experiences that bend reality.

At the moment, as Surdu focuses on his music, he is collaborating with a variety of local artists including DJ Frasifraijh, award-winning photographer JD Dennison, and singer-songwriter Alex Brown. He’s also putting together a live show of electronic music mixed with the energy and edge of a live big band.

Surdu will also join a host of other international talent spanning a wide range of genres when he contributes his track “New Digs” to WiFi PR Group’s compilation Indie Anthems Vol. 5, set to be released at Coachella in April 2014. The digital mixtape will be handed out on 3,500 download cards to festival attendees, and 1,500 more copies will be made available on the Indie Anthems Bandcamp website.

Physical copies of Surdu’s music are not available, but his music is available for free downloading and streaming on his Soundcloud profile. He also has videos available through his YouTube page, including videos for “Revolution,” “8-Bit Jackson,” and his latest single, “New Digs.”
