Those undergoing breast augmentation can expect sutures to remain in place for a time. Some degree of bruising and swelling is common, and a compression garment must be worn to provide the support necessary to maintain positioning of the implants. It takes time for the implants to settle and for swelling to dissipate before natural looking results emerge.
