Boston, MA -- (SBWire) -- 06/19/2014 --Vitamins and dietary supplements became a significant trend among Argentinian consumers and an important consumer health market. This was due mainly to strong advertising campaigns by top brands Centrum, Pharmaton, Supradyn and 102 Anos. This trend could be observed in advertising campaigns during 2012, which featured renowned Argentinian opinion leaders/artists.

Competitive Landscape

Competition is high in vitamins and dietary supplements and half of the players with significant value shares together accounted for over 80% of retail value sales in 2013. Leaders Bayer, Herbalife and Takeda Pharmaceutical together accounted for almost 40% of retail value sales in 2013 followed at a distance by the remaining players. Import restrictions imposed in early 2011 and strengthened in 2012 had a negative impact on sales of multinational brands. For example, Herbalife's value share declined by near 3 percentage points since the beginning of import barriers.
