The Deepest Dark: "Canada's Mistress of Suspense" Releases Another 5-Star Novel of Suspense

Joan Hall Hovey may already have seven published novels garnering rave reviews from coast to coast, but this prolific writer refuses to put down her pen. Hovey’s hallmark dark undertones have earned her the apt title of “Canada’s Mistress of Suspense” and ‘The Deepest Dark’ is no exception. Readers can prepare for a chilling dilemma of family devotion, tragedy and one grieving woman’s foiled plans to reunite with her loved ones.

Quispamsis, NB -- (SBWire) -- 07/29/2014 --Many authors are happy to test the literary waters with a single novel and tick “becoming an author” off their bucket list. However, Joan Hall Hovey bucks this trend with gusto. Her seventh published novel, ‘The Deepest Dark’, bears Hovey’s celebrated characterizations and knack for gripping suspense.

Synopsis:

Following the deaths of her husband, Corey, and ten year old daughter Ellie in a traffic accident, author Abby Miller sinks ever deeper into depression. She contemplates suicide as a way to be with them, and to end her unrelenting pain.

In a last desperate effort to find peace, she drives to Loon Lake where they last vacationed together, wanting to believe they will be waiting for her there. At least in spirit. Barring that, the pills Doctor Gregory gave her to help her sleep, are in her purse.

The cabin at Loon Lake was her and Corey’s secret hideaway, and not even Abby’s sister, Karen, to whom she is close, knows where it is. But someone else does. He is one of three men who have escaped from Pennington prison. They are dangerous predators who will stop at nothing to get what they want - and to keep from going back to prison. Having already committed the worst of crimes, they have nothing to lose.

Unknowingly, Abby is on a collision course with evil itself. And the decision of whether to live or die will soon be wrenched from her hands.

The idea for “The Deepest Dark’ was triggered by the thought that the worst thing that could happen to a woman is to lose her child. In “The Deepest Dark” not only has author Abby Miller lost her ten year old daughter in a horrendous car accident, but her husband as well.

“I like to write about ordinary women who are at a difficult time in their lives, and are suddenly faced with an external evil force. I like to write about women who are stronger than they think they are. I didn’t think a whole lot about theme until I had written a couple of books, but I realized with the writing of my third novel ‘Chill Waters’ that my books generally have to do with betrayal and abandonment, and learning to trust again. And more important, learning to trust oneself. Almost any good book will tell you something about the author herself. (or himself.) You can’t avoid it. But first and foremost I want to give readers a roller- coaster ride, one that resonates in the imagination long after the last page is read. And I believe I’ve succeeded in that in “The Deepest Dark”.

Readers agree. Since the novel’s publication, readers have flocked in their droves to leave positive reviews. For example, one reader comments, “Enticing plot soon gets suspenseful and is integrated with several surprising twists that you will applaud. Joan is a very talented writer able to give the reader a sense of being right in the midst of the action.”

Author Barbara Grovner adds, “I delved into this amazing suspense novel right from the very first scene. I was immediately drawn in by the believable characters and convincing dialogue. The pace was wonderfully easy as scene after scene unfolded in living color. The very talented Ms. Hovey uses fascinating key words to describe people, places and things with both subtlety and excitement, leaving me with a motion picture in my mind...one that I can play over and over again.”

Gary praises the book for its ability to hit the ground running, writing, “This book is a thriller right from the start. The characters are real and the action is nearly non-stop.”

“…Taut plotting, great characters, and chilling suspense make this thriller a book you can’t put down....exhibits a master’s touch— Alfred Hitchcock would be smiling…” ~Book Pleasures Review, Steve Moore
