Boston, MA -- (SBWire) -- 08/15/2014 --Concentrates continued losing volume sales to more convenient beverages, in part related to the migration from concentrated fruit juice versions to RTD juices and in part due to increases in prices as a consequence of rising raw materials costs. In 2013 volume sales declined by 6%.

Competitive Landscape:

The two top companies - Mondelez Brasil and Empresa Brasileira de Bebidas e Alimentos - accounted for 43% share in off-trade value sales in 2013, mostly due to their leading positions in powder and liquid concentrates, respectively. In the year Mondelez (previously Kraft Foods Brasil) saw the biggest increase in value share due to the strong performance of the Tang brand, which frequently receives high resources for promotion in advertising campaigns.

Industry Prospects:

Ready-to-drink beverages are gaining preference amongst Brazilians, which will be reflected in poor performance of liquid concentrates during the 2013-2018 forecast period. On the other hand, powder concentrates is expected to register total volume growth of 10% between 2013 and 2018. Focusing mainly on C and D economic strata consumers, such products are perceived as more natural than carbonates, so they will keep reasonable volume growth.
