How Small Russian Group Attempts to Shield Local Dogs from the Winter Cold

A small group of Russian animal lovers are taking steps to protect local dogs from the extreme temperatures during the winter season.

Beverly Hills, CA -- (SBWire) -- 08/19/2014 --A group of animal lovers living in Minsk, Belarus, an area on the outskirts of Russia, have been taking care of a large portion of the homeless dog population in and around their hometown. Due to a diminishing financial climate in their part of the world, more and more people are unable to care for their pets. These unfortunate animals will find themselves with no family or home more often than not. One of the main concerns that the group currently has is the on coming winter. Though it is only August, they do not have a facility to house all of the dogs they are currently caring for. If plans are not put into motion soon, many dogs in the area will die during the winter months. With temperatures dipping down into the -30° range, sleeping outdoors is not an option for any animal.

" Russian winter is on the way. Out there right now are dogs that, without help, will die in temperatures of around -30°. Help build a warm place for four-legged friends to stay. ", says a member of the group. Right now the dogs of Minsk, Belarus have been given free range of a home donated by a member of the group. The home has been completely converted in order to accommodate the animals. There are always a few humans living with the dogs in order to feed them, care for them and clean up their messes. The main issue that these dog lovers are facing is a lack of space. With more and more dogs needing shelter, they are simply running out of room. Currently the group is attempting to collect enough funds to have a secondary building constructed along side the first makeshift dog shelter.

A member of the group was quoted as saying, " The construction company requires $30,000 simply to build the basic structure of the building. To realize the dream of this second shelter, clearly need much more than that sum as a simple structure alone won't provide a warm sanctuary. "

The main concern that the group has as of right now is a lack of funds. The contractor that was hired to complete the job will charge them $30,000 to construct the secondary building, an amount of money that the group simply does not have. They are currently looking to build funds via a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. Their goal is to raise the money that is required to have the construction completed before the temperatures drop to dangerous levels.
