Publisher Chosen as Partner for Autism Support Group

Louisville, KY -- (SBWire) -- 08/20/2014 --Books, Authors, and Artists (BAA) was officially named by Autistic Authors as their publishing partner for their online course. The course of the same name is aimed at supporting autistic children and their caregivers while developing useful skills by creating a story.

Autistic Authors was created by Astrid Nicholls, an author based in the UK and mother of Lisa who is autistic. After seeing some progress in her daughter’s socialization while working on publishing Wings for a Fairy, Lisa’s first book, Ms. Nicholls decided to see if other children could be helped in the same way. The goal is to help autistic children develop their communication and social skills by developing a story they create.

BAA was chosen to handle the publishing side of this project. The independent publisher will be taking the manuscripts created by Autistic Authors and actually publishing them. They will provide basic editing, proofreading, and formatting skills to get the files ready for publication.

Astrid Nicholls says “When I was roped in to create my daughter’s book, I had no idea what I was starting. I was and still am amazed by the fact that my daughter will voluntarily approach us to talk about her book. And I think that if it worked for her, it might just work for someone else’s child too.

Lisa is extremely proud of her book. She was even happier when she held her printed, paperback book for the first time. She couldn’t wait to show it off to her friends and teachers. I’m happy that my particular set of skills was helpful to my daughter. With BAA’s help, I hope I’ll be able to help other children work on the skills that will allow them to live in our world.”

Autistic Authors will soon be looking for beta-testers to clinically review the course in order to make the course live in its final form before the end of the summer. Wings For a Fairy, co-written by autistic Lisa Nicholls and her mother Astrid Nicholls, can be found on Amazon as a 40-page paperback
