Intuit has supported the Tax Freedom Edition for over ten years, and over 22 million federal and state tax returns have been donated to mid and low-income households through the TurboTax Freedom Edition.

This year TurboTax has a special arrangement providing free advice from CPAs, IRS Enrolled Agents and tax attorneys through online chat or on the phone. TurboTax is the only software firm offering live one-on-one advice sessions.

The free TurboTax Online Tax Freedom Edition is available in 22 states. The states are: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia.

There is another resource taxpayers can use regardless of income: the Free File Forms at IRS.Gov. This is a very simple form, similar to a paper 1040 form that asks basic questions. All the taxpayer has to do is type in some numbers and the Free File Form will do the calculations.
