Fitlife Announces 5k Run to Benefit Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation

Ivyland, PA -- (SBWire) -- 08/26/2014 --Fitlife is holding a 5k run in September to benefit the Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation (CRBF). Sufferers of CRB1 experience blindness or visual impairment because of mutations in the CRB1 gene. Many of the patients in the foundation are children, and many are close to completely losing their sight. In addition to helping their clients with weight loss in Richboro, Fitlife is concerned with all aspects of health, so they jumped at the opportunity to participate in such a worthy cause with the CRBF. All proceeds from the 5k run go to pay for research in the treatment of CRB1.

This fundraiser is especially important because CRB1 research money is hard to come by. Because CRB1 is so rare, only affecting about 3300 people in the US, the disease remains low profile and treatment efforts are plagued by a lack of funding. Any support given to the hardworking foundation goes a long way. Since its inception in May 2011, the foundation has made significant progress. In that time they have recruited a Scientific Advisory Board, and held a research symposium for CRB1, the first of its kind in the US, awarded 5 research grants with their funding to teams working to find a cure in Philadelphia (where the CRBF is based), Maine, Germany, and The Netherlands.

The foundation also held a research collaboration dinner in Orlando, FL in May of this year, and plans to hold their second annual research symposium in the fall of 2014.

Participation in the 5k run event at Fitlife could help bring sight to many children and adults suffering from CRB1. To find out how to participate or to find information on programs for weight loss in Warrington, visit Fitlife online or call 215-716-1298.
