Assault Survivors Need Support. Assistance League Volunteers Respond

San Diego, CA -- (SBWire) -- 09/05/2014 --Our member volunteers purchase and distribute a set of new clothing and toiletries to agencies that serve survivors of sexual assaults. These neighbors have been brave enough to report their assault to the police. We are the only non-profit in the San Diego area that provides this assistance.

Since police keep each survivor's clothing as evidence, having a change of clothes becomes critical. Instead of wearing a paper gown home, each survivor leaves the hospital with a set of new clothes and personal hygiene items. Our gift says to each survivor, "Your community wants you to recover from this traumatic event".

Later in the legal process, survivors must again be brave as they charge their attackers in court. Community support helps them to be strong. Our volunteers provide continued support with a packet of sustaining food, water and note-taking supplies to sustain a survivor for an 8-hour day at the court.

Annually since 1998 this program has supported assault survivors. Chapter members have purchased and delivered over 4,000 kits to local Sexual Assault Response Teams.
