Charity Begins Elsewhere for Richest Investors - A Research Study from Southeast Asia Traders

Mr. Wang T. Wenbo, CEO and Chairmen Southeast Asia Traders sais is 'really disappointing' to see how few wealthy investors contribute to charity or philanthropic causes.

Hong Kong -- (SBWire) -- 09/30/2014 --High net-worth investors represent the top 5 per cent of income earners in Asia, but when it comes to giving money to charities they are tight-fisted: only one in three plans to put money aside for donations.

The findings were revealed in a survey of 200 wealthy investors, which showed that 67 per cent of the respondents surveyed said they did not plan to put money aside for charity.

More than half of those surveyed said they planned to contribute a lump sum when they died and nearly 20 per cent said they would contribute to a charity or philanthropic cause while alive.

"There's not enough government support for people who need help, there's not enough government support for medical research, there's not enough help for people with disabilities," said Mr. Wang T. Wenbo, CEO and Chairmen Southeast Asia Traders.

"Unless the rest of society can help, then ultimately we reach a breaking point.

"Everyone has an obligation to do it and if you earn more you should have a bigger obligation to do it."

The Southeast Asia Traders survey also shows that the average percentage of assets that rich investors planned to put aside for charity either before or after they die was 24 per cent.

It found that the type of charities respondents were most likely to contribute to were welfare, medical, scientific, environment and religious.
