After nearly 70 years, this working farm and family homestead might be history without help.

Matawan, NJ -- (SBWire) -- 10/14/2014 --It all started in 1945 when Donna Buechler’s dad started cutting wild trees to sell as Christmas trees. About that same time he purchased the first piece of property of what would become the farm Donna grew up on eventually starting her own family on that same farm.

That farm is Elmcrest Acre in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. With two children of her own, Donna wants to keep the farm in the family as it faces a forced sale. Donna is doing whatever she can to stop this sale because she grew upon that farm and learned the importance of family, the value of hard work, and a love of agriculture and the outdoors. After she married and had kids of her own, she wanted them to grow up in the same environment as she did. This led her and her husband Dave to build their home next door to the farm while assuming responsibility for a part of the tree farm her dad started.

About 10 years ago her dad passed away putting more of the farm’s responsibilities on her family’s shoulders. Donna, being the youngest and definitely daddy’s girl, she had a tough time adjusting to life without her dad but loaded with added commitments. Knowing she was following in her father’s footsteps made it easier.

The Buechler’s truly love the people they meet and enjoy sharing the rural lifestyle with those who haven’t been lucky enough to live it on their own. In today’s technocratic world, the vast majority of the people that visit the farm gain a perspective they never had before thanks to the array of classes and workshops given at Elmcrest Acres.

Being able to transport people from a world where technology dominates and a fast-paced lifestyle takes it course, Donna is delighted to offer people something truly special; a finer appreciation for a side of life too many people miss out on; farming and agriculture where cultivation and hard work leads to so many of the things we take for granted every day, Donna’s quandary was brought about by her extended family; they decided they wanted out of the farm and want The Buechlers buy out their share of the property for $66,000. If they can’t pull this off, the farm will be listed on the open market.

Scrambling, Donna managed to come up with a little less than half of the money and has turned to crowdfunding to make up the difference. Backers of this project can enjoy everything from rustic postcards to farm-style family meals to weekend getaways and even week-long vacations on this beautiful property.
