My Partner the Ghost: Life Just Gets (Wonderfully!) Weird, as Boy & Ghost Embark on Adventure to Find Buried Treasure, in New Children's Book

Author Lisa Schmid fuses all that is spellbinding about children’s books in ‘My Partner the Ghost’, which not only proves the power of unlikely friendships, but will make any child’s seemingly-weird life become a true adventure in itself. Eleven-year-old Ollie Sparks hates his family’s frequent moves, until he makes friends with a ghost and sets off on a life-changing adventure to find buried treasure. Sounds delectably strange? It is intentional!

Folsom, CA -- (SBWire) -- 11/05/2014 --While children’s books have long been a staple of every household and upbringing, readers and critics are currently crying out for wholly-unique new narratives that don’t succumb to recycling of the ‘same-old’ concepts. Thankfully, author Lisa Schmid is bucking the trend with gusto. Her new book proves that…well…weird can often be really cool!

‘My Partner the Ghost’ whisks kids off on an adventure they won’t be forgetting any time soon. Not just because they are trying to find treasure, but because their comrades are a young boy and a ghost whose unlikely friendship produces unbreakable bonds.

When your neighbor is loony, and your best friend is a ghost, who knows what adventures you might have!

Eleven-year-old Ollie Sparks is tired of moving from town to town. Every time his mom—an actress—gets a new job, Ollie and his drama queen sister have to pack up, and he never seems to make any friends. His life has always been a little strange, but it’s about to get… weird.

First of all, the new house is PINK. His mom’s friends are some kind of pirate and a loony psychic. And the town bully seems to have it out for Ollie. So when he meets Teddy—a great kid who just happens to be a ghost—Ollie figures that he’s seen it all.

But when Teddy mentions buried treasure, Ollie and his new friends—the ghost and the psychic—set off on an adventure that is sure to change everyone’s lives!

“I wanted this story to represent all that is great about childhood,” explains Schmid. “Kids thinking their parents are crazy, friendships that are out-of-this-world and innocent adventures that can make entire days go by in a heartbeat. I’m a huge fan of children’s stories and want to champion reading by writing something that has never been seen before.”

Continuing, “It’s also got some more subtle themes, such as the changing dynamics of the modern family, the ever-growing problems of school bullies and the diverse new relationships that are forming as children mix with people from different cultures and backgrounds. Okay, they are unlikely to make friends with a ghost, but it will help children recognize that those who first appear to be different can make lifelong friends.”

Schmid has many more adventures on her writing table.

“I don’t want to say too much at this stage, but Ollie will be back very soon!” she adds.

About Lisa Schmid
“I love children’s books! I love the stories, I love the illustrations and I love how in an instant, you can be transported to magical places and faraway lands. To this day, I secretly hope Narnia is real.

I have always known at some point in my life I would eventually put pen to paper or in my case, chicken pecking to keyboard. It wasn’t until I moved to a small town in the Gold Country of Northern, CA that inspiration finally struck. In the backyard of my new, two story house, complete with a white picket fence (no, my house was not pink), I discovered a bent piece of metal poking out from the trunk of an olive tree. I knew immediately that I had found the catalyst for my story.

My Partner The Ghost, is a labor of love. I enjoyed every minute that I spent creating my kooky characters. I am currently working on the next book in the series. Ollie and Teddy are about to embark on a new adventure with a new friend and a sneaky new ghost.”
