Fragrances benefited from higher disposable incomes which strengthened purchasing power within Malaysia. Consumers were increasingly more willing to invest or spend on fragrances to improve their personal appearance. Young consumers tended to choose lighter, more fruity and floral scents, while older consumers preferred heavier and woodier fragrances.

Competitive Landscape

Avon Cosmetics was by far the leading company in fragrances with 24% retail value share. The company maintained its leading position through a broad range of mass men?s fragrances and mass women?s fragrances offered under affordable price range. However, a rising number of new launches from other players in mass women?s fragrances resulted in a drop in total value share possessed by Avon Cosmetics of five percentage points from 2012. Other mass brands like Enchanteur and Silkygirl are becoming strong competitors of Avon within mass women?s fragrances upon the launch of more new variants.
