Research Shows Curcumin Holds Promise for Managing Diabetes

Portland, OR -- (SBWire) -- 11/10/2014 --The medical community in the U.S. has designated diabetes as an epidemic and a national health problem, costing millions of dollars each year in medications and treatment. There’s no cure for diabetes, but research published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry indicates that a curcumin supplement can affect blood glucose levels and the associated problems of diabetes.

“The research demonstrated that curcumin appears to stop the fatty deposits that form on arteries,” said VitaBreeze spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan. “The six month study shows that curcumin has immense possibilities and that much more research is needed to determine its full potential.”

Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric, a tropical botanical used for centuries by East Indian medical practitioners. The pancreas produces insulin, a hormone that enables the body to utilize sugar for energy. When the body manufactures insufficient levels or becomes unresponsive to glucose, diabetes occurs.

Clinicians in India have used curcumin to help stabilize glucose levels and address related issues ranging from heart disease and nerve damage to foot, vision and dental problems. Current research from sources around the globe indicates that curcumin has potential for virtually every part of the body affected by diabetes.

Individuals with diabetes are at increased risk for heart attack and stroke, blindness and kidney disease, and nerve damage throughout the body. Decreased circulation, high blood pressure and severe digestive impairment are also experienced by those with diabetes, along with inflammation.

Researchers believe that curcumin is a natural anti-inflammatory that’s proven effective for short-term and chronic inflammatory responses that are present in diabetes. It is also thought to have antioxidant properties to neutralize free radicals that damage cells. Research has determined that curcumin also assists neurological receptors throughout the body. Over time, people with diabetes experience damage to nerves that result in pain and dysfunction.

Perhaps one of the most important curcumin research projects was conducted by the prestigious Molecular Nutrition and Food Research organization. Results showed that curcumin substantially lowered blood glucose levels, fatty acids, cholesterol and triglycerides.

Curcumin research demonstrates that the botanical holds considerable promise for those with diabetes, affecting glucose levels and many of the factors that place individuals at risk for a myriad of related diseases and health conditions. There’s no cure for diabetes, but curcumin provides new avenues of exploration for control and management of the disease (www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI).
