More Studies Focus on the Effects of Curcumin on Wound Healing
Portland, OR -- (SBWire) -- 12/03/2014 --Arthritis conditions such as osteoarthritis are one of the leading causes of disability in the United States. Many arthritis sufferers rely on natural alternatives such as turmeric to achieve pain relief and possibly regain their joint health. However, it seems that there are other uses of turmeric that non-arthritis sufferers can take advantage of.
More studies are now focusing on the effects of curcumin on wound healing. Curcumin is the active ingredient found in the turmeric spice and many believe it may have positive effects on the healing of wounds. Wounds are normally susceptible to infection and this is why there is a compelling need for it to be treated.
"In India, turmeric is widely used for wound care especially when there are no other treatment options available. Turmeric pastes are usually used as ointments to treat wounds," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.
Studies found that the therapeutic effects of turmeric comes from its anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. These properties are believed to be effective in helping the body to combat a wide range of conditions. According to studies, turmeric can significantly help speed up the healing process of wounds and reduce the risk for scarring.
The Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences published a study that found that the curcumin can potentially reduce the concentration of bacteria in wounds. Curcumin is an active ingredient of turmeric that is believed to have a number of health benefits. The Biochemical Journal also published a study that suggests curcumin can help inhibit the production and growth of certain bacteria including Bacillus species, Staphylococcus, and Enterococcus.
"There are many ways of using turmeric in managing wounds. People use it as ointment, bandage, or paste to be applied on wounds. It is commonly used in conjunction with other natural ingredients that are known to speed up wound healing," added O'Sullivan.
Many studies are still being conducted to test the effects of turmeric in wounds. As studies continue to grow in number, many people are already using the natural alternative for a wide variety of diseases and conditions http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI/?ie=UTF8?&m=A3OG9DHZ3GI58O&keywords=turmeric
