Research Suggests Certain Arthritic Conditions May Decrease Lifespan

Portland, OR -- (SBWire) -- 01/06/2015 --Arthritic conditions cause millions of people around the world to suffer from pain, inflammation and swelling. Many experience a reduced quality of life as a result of having the condition, especially those whose physical limitations have incapacitated them from working and enjoying fun activities. Research now reveals that there may be worse consequences that patients will face if suffering from the condition.

A study published in the Oxford Journal of Rheumatology suggested that rheumatoid arthritis patients are more susceptible to premature death. While a variety of factors such as age, gender and disease duration also affect overall life span, the study concluded that a high level of sustained inflammation appears to be an important predictor of premature death.

Some experts also claim that having the condition can encourage or force patients to become physically inactive due to the pain they are suffering from. This physical inactivity is thought to significantly increase a person's risk of life-threatening conditions such as renal disease, heart disease, respiratory problems and infections.

"Having arthritis can have several consequences that negatively affect the lives of patients. It can be hard enough just dealing with the daily pain, let alone the increased risk of developing other conditions," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

Rheumatoid arthritis is considered a debilitating condition that has dramatic physical, emotional and economic effects on the lives of those with the condition. It is believed to affect 1% of the adult population worldwide. However, research shows that the prevalence of the condition has continually been increasing due to an aging population.

Patients who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis often suffer from functional disability and work disability within ten years of the onset of the condition. This results in dramatic loss or reduction in earnings. Patients are also more likely to spend for higher medical costs, experience frequent hospitalization and repetitive physician visits.

The mortality risk for rheumatoid arthritis patients are higher compared to those who are not suffering from the condition. Studies found that the life expectancy of rheumatoid arthritis patients tend to be shorter and their survival rates can be compared to those who have diabetes mellitus, Hodgkin's disease and three-vessel coronary artery disease.

"Many people who have been successfully able to manage their arthritic conditions and improve their overall health have made some healthy dietary and lifestyle changes," added O'Sullivan.

There are preventable causes of arthritic conditions. Experts say that if people take the necessary measures needed to improve their protection from the condition, then they will be able to increase their chance in living longer http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI/?ie=UTF8?&m=A3OG9DHZ3GI58O&keywords=turmeric
