More Sufferers of Trigeminal Neuralgia Are Using Turmeric for Pain Relief

Portland, OR -- (SBWire) -- 01/30/2015 --Trigeminal neuralgia is a painful condition that is often experienced by individuals with high blood pressure, osteoporosis, high blood cholesterol and multiple sclerosis. In an effort to manage their pain without dangerous pharmaceutical drugs, an increasing number of sufferers are turning to natural alternatives such as turmeric.

According to some health experts, turmeric could be an excellent remedy for trigeminal neuralgia. Studies suggest that the ancient spice contains high levels of antioxidant, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is believed that these therapeutic properties may be useful in helping to calm the irritated nerve and alleviate swelling.

Trigeminal neuralgia is otherwise known as facial pain and is characterized by a pinching sensation or pressure in the affected areas. It can also result in stabbing or burning pain in certain areas in the face. The onset of trigeminal neuralgia may be triggered by simple actions such as talking, smiling, chewing, tooth brushing, shaving, and drinking cold or hot liquids.

There are conventional medical treatments such as pharmaceutical drugs used for the condition. However, with the FDA issuing warnings against the prolonged use of pain relief drugs, many consumers are now searching for a safer, long-term solution.

"Many sufferers of trigeminal neuralgia use turmeric to achieve pain relief. They often mix turmeric powder with a glass of hot milk and consume it before going to bed at night. A majority of these consumers testify that they have indeed experienced significant pain relief," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

Turmeric contains an active ingredient known as curcumin that is believed to have strong anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce the inflammation and pain associated with trigeminal neuralgia. There have been many studies conducted to validate whether or not there was a scientific basis to the health claims associated with the use of turmeric.

A meta-analysis published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine stated that curcumin has been demonstrated to be safe in six human trials and has successfully demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity. It is believed to exert its anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting a number of different molecules that play a role in inflammation.

While a majority of studies have been based on cell culture and animal research, these early clinical trials do appear to support purported benefits. As studies continue, more patients who want to avoid the side effects of pain relief drugs are relying on curcumin supplements to achieve natural pain relief (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI/).
