Suffolk Based Little Acorns Fostering Launch Open Day on 9th May for Potential Foster Carers

A fostering agency in Suffolk has announced they will have an open day on the 9th May 2015 for potential foster carers. The open day will give people the chance to learn more about the important work of fostering a child. The studies from the Fostering Network show that about 9,000 fostering families will be needed to meet the needs for 2015.

Suffolk, UK -- (SBWire) -- 02/23/2015 --With reports from The Fostering Network show that 9,000 fostering families will be needed for 2015, Suffolk based Little Acorns has decided to launch an open day on the 9th May 2015. The event will give people thinking of becoming a foster carer an insight into the important work that foster families do and how important it is for more foster families to come forward.

Little Acorns was established with the goal to recruit, train and support foster carers in the important work that they do. The event being held at Rook Tree Barn, from 12pm till 4pm, will give the chance for people interested in fostering to meet the team and carers and ask any questions they may have.

There are many reasons why someone or a couple might be interested in becoming a foster carer. They could have been a foster child themselves and understand how important it is to give a child a loving home, or maybe they cannot have a child of their own. No matter what the reason, becoming a foster carer is important work and can make a difference to a child's life.

A spokesman for Little Acorns said: "There are thousands of children who require a loving home, becoming a foster carer can be a very rewarding experience. We have put this event together to make people aware of what is involved and how important the work is."

The event will be informal and relaxed, with a lot of entertainment for children, with food and refreshments provided. The attendees will learn more about the different types of foster care, which are as follows:

- Mainstream – this group is the largest one and includes kids that are rejected, neglected, or abused by their parents.

- Sibling groups – This group includes sisters and brothers placed together with carers. The goal of Fostering Network is to not separate the siblings if possible.

- Parent and Child – This group is directed to both the child and their parent in the attempt to support them and help the parent develop the necessary skills to take a proper care of the child.

- Children with disabilities – the foster carers that are included in this category should have special skills and experience to know how to properly take care of kids and young people with learning or physical disabilities.

- Complex / Intensive Fostering is intended for children with challenging behaviour and needs to receive adolescent psychotherapy, play therapy or other types of therapeutic input.
