Frank McCormick MD, Publishes Co-Authors New Harvard Study

The orthopedic surgeon’s Harvard Medical School study will be published in Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research.

Miami, FL -- (SBWire) -- 03/04/2015 --Dr. Frank McCormick, a LESS Institute orthopedic surgeon, Harvard Medical School professor, and Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy Reserve, can now add one more accomplishment to his resume. His recent study – which he co-authored with some of his Harvard colleagues – will be published in Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research (CORR). This journal is considered to be the premier publication in the orthopedic world.

The study – entitled Surgeons' Attitudes Are Associated With Reoperation and Readmission Rates – explores how a surgeon's negative attitude regarding a patient's outcomes could impact that person's ability to heal and recover. The more negative a surgeon's attitude, the more likely it is that the patient will need to be readmitted for the same injury.

"I'm excited that CORR has selected this study for publication," says Dr. McCormick. "Throughout the course of research, my colleagues and I were astonished to see such a profound connection between a surgeon's outlook on a patient's potential recovery, and that patient's actual recovery."

The study's publication found an instant home in CORR.

"As the Editor-in-Chief of CORR, I enjoyed reading their work," says Seth S. Leopold, MD. "One of the initiatives I've started at the journal seeks to promote the most interesting papers that we publish, so that readers even outside of the specialty will know why they are important to read.

"This paper is ideal for this initiative, as there are several important, generalizable messages in it," he adds.

Dr. McCormick specializes in outpatient sports medicine, cartilage/meniscal/stem cell transplantation, joint preservations, and arthroscopic treatment of the shoulder, hip, and knee. Dr. McCormick operates in several southern/central Florida locations, including Miami, Palm Beach, Orlando, and Doral.
