Subaru's 2015 Outback Sets New Sales Record in Australia

Australians have gone mad for the new Subaru Outback with demand outstripping supply.

Woodford Green, Essex -- (SBWire) -- 03/16/2015 --When the Japanese car firm overhauled their Outback, they deliberately designed it for countries with terrains like Australia and Tasmania. Both areas have rugged and challenging roads and tracks that require tough vehicles to navigate safely. It seems they have the balance between style and functionality right, at least when it comes to the Australian market.

In February 2015, the company sold 890 new generation Outbacks. A 269% increase on sales mad in January. February's sales beat the previous record of 829 units, which were sold in March of 2006.

Currently the Australian car market is stable, with the year to date figures for 2014 and 2015 being around the same across the country. There has been an increase in demand, but only 2%. Few vehicle manufacturers have seen the soaring demand that has been created by the launch of the new Subaru.

The new Outback is not just popular in Australia. Anyone who enjoys outdoor sports in the UK will, at some point, come across a used Subaru. Essex hikers and mountain bikers seem to love them, as do windsurfers from Cornwall and paragliders from Dorset.

The fact that the vehicle can go practically anywhere and has massive storage capacity makes it a great vehicle for outdoor sport enthusiasts who need to carry a lot of equipment. With the seats folded, there is 73.3 cubic feet of space available. Even with the rear seats in use, there is 35.5 cubic feet of space available.

The first Outbacks were station wagons, so they sold well in the US, but in very limited numbers elsewhere in the world. In time, farmers and hunters started to show an interest, but for many years, the Outback was very much a niche vehicle. However, as outdoor sports have increased in popularity, so has demand for true all-wheel drive vehicles. This has meant that sales in the UK and other parts of Europe have also been strong. The Outback is very much a car, but it also has the carrying capacity of a van and the ability to perform as a true all terrain vehicles.
