Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWire) -- 03/31/2015 --After uncooperative weather postponed the Mummers Mardi Gras for one week, the organizers and event planners are extremely proud to announce a successful event with the great Mummers string bands. The parade took place on Saturday, February 28, and more than 5,000 residents and spectators made the trip to Main Street in Manayunk in an effort to support the Mummers.

It was a brisk day on the streets as the Mummers parade in Philadelphia celebrated in Manayunk and carried on the tradition through a day coproduced by ADVENT and the Manayunk Development Corporation. Executive Director of the Manayunk Development Corporation, Jane Lipton, marched in the parade and served as commentator for the event. The sun was shining, and the organizers raised more money than their goal of $17,000. With the community interest, 30 sponsorships and dozens of volunteers, the turnout was unbelievable and showed the pride that members of the Philadelphia and Manayunk community have for the Mummers tradition.

There were 17 string bands that marched through the streets in a charity event that raised thousands of dollars to keep the tradition alive. There were volunteers collecting donations along the parade route throughout the day, and bracelets were sold for $10 each with all proceeds benefitting the Philadelphia String Band Association. The family-friendly event produced plenty of interactivity with all spectators, including photo opportunities with the Mummers, face painting, Mardi Gras collectible beads, and the ability to try on Mummers costumes.

With the success of the inaugural parade, ADVENT is excited to start planning the Philly Mummers parade through Manayunk in 2016. The partnership with the Manayunk Development Corporation produced a prideful event with an exceptional turnout. After the conclusion of the parade, there were daylong specials and promotions at participating retailers in Manayunk, and the various string bands continued the party by bringing their instruments into the surrounding bars.
