Change and Be Changed is a small charity made up of passionate educators and community workers in North America and Africa who want to help student overcome poverty to attend school and obtain an education. Now, the group has launched a charity that is making it possible to fund scholarships for this purpose.

Malawi, Central Africa -- (SBWire) -- 04/03/2015 --Change and Be Changed is a charity consisting of educators and community workers who want to bridge the space between North America and Malawi, also known as the "Warm Heart of Africa."  Despite its friendly name, Northern Malawi is among the poorest of regions in Central Africa, and Drs. Thomas and Elisabeth Hangartner, who have been volunteering in the area since 2006, see a strong need for funds to pay for high school and college scholarships for the children here.  Now, the Hangartners, along with other concerned friends, have created Change and Be Changed, an Ohio-registered charity whose 510(c)(3) status is pending, to raise money for these scholarships and have launched an IndieGoGo campaign for this purpose.

Change and Be Changed will reach out to those who are unable to attend school by supplying scholarship funds to enable them to pursue their academic dreams.  The initial funding will provide full and partial tuition scholarships for indigent high school and college students as well as scholarships for disabled students at residential programs.  These funds will also pay for textbooks, stationery, transportation and allowances for equipment for the neediest of the needy.  Recipients will be required to perform supervised community volunteer work through various organizations, to maintain high academic and personal standards and to provide receipts for tuition and school report cards.
