Little Miss Somebody: Childhood Trauma Survivor Helps Women Heal with Her New Novel

Tacoma, WA -- (SBWire) -- 04/03/2015 --In support of National Child Abuse Awareness Month, a local author releases her the eagerly-awaited book Little Miss Somebody, the heartbreaking but ultimately empowering first novel in a new series by Christy Lynn Abram.

Little Miss Somebody is, at its heart, a story about the deep wounds that exist in families and how those wounds, if they are not healed, can continue to cause pain that is passed down through the generations. The central character is fourteen-year-old Nikki, who is forced to leave the world she knows when her feckless, alcoholic mother moves her on impulse to Saint Louis, Missouri. Isolated, Nikki is completely at the mercy of her mother who abuses her daughter both physically, emotionally, mentally and abandons Nikki for days at a time. Feeling more than ever like the worthless, unlovable burden her mother tells her she is, Nikki decides it is time to take matters into her own hands and sets off on a journey to find her estranged father and, she hopes, the love she desperately needs.

Little Miss Somebody is based on the childhood experiences of author Christy Lynn Abram, who struggled with the fallout of her trauma for many years before she discovered the benefits of holistic healing. Now a trained holistic healer in eight healing modalities, Christy draws on her childhood experiences—as well as the fifteen-year struggle with PTSD and depression that followed—to help others release their pain and to claim the power within them to heal their lives. With that goal, she teaches expressive writing, Reiki and Chakra wellness to decrease anxiety and PTSD and is the creator of Loving Touch Therapy, as well as being a Certified Peer Counselor in Tacoma, Washington, where she works with trauma survivors who are transitioning towards recovery.

She says: "My mission is to empower young women to find the greatness that lives within them no matter who tries to tear them down. When we tell our story, it gives us a chance to mend our broken pieces, to release our pain and discover our best selves." She added that while delving into the past was a painful experience for her, she feels that it is essential to do so as her story can give other women the courage to begin their own healing journey: "Although it hurt to relive the trauma I have experienced in my life, I would do it again if it meant I can inspire one woman to speak her truth. Each year more and more children are left with the after effects of child abuse. Personally, I have to continue to work hard to maintain my wellness. I know how painful the memories can be, this is why I am dedicated to helping survivors love themselves healthy."

Today, Christy lives in Tacoma, Washington with her three children. Before Little Miss Somebody, she authored two non-fiction books, Women and Business (2009, currently out of print) and Chakra Wellness (2014). A charismatic speaker, she is also the founder of Love Yourself Healthy—which guides women on the path to finding their personal power and increasing it, through self-love, and healing sisterhood.

Christy's other activities include her Tacoma-based writing camp for teenagers, "GirlSpeak™, which she will be launching this summer in partnership with Ladies First and The Tacoma Urban League.
