Berkshire, England -- (SBWire) -- 04/07/2015 --Porsche going all electric, Porsche has announced it is working on an all-electric model for the near future as part of its commitment to alternative fuelled vehicles. This programme includes hybrid, all-electric and fuel cell cars but details are scarce at this stage.

The purist Porsche buyer has been challenged over the years by the introduction of SUVs in the form of the Cayenne and more recently the Macan, and now is being asked to accept a clean and green car from the traditional sports car brand. Motor industry speculation suggests that the new all electric model would sit below the Panamera in the Porsche line up, taking on the Tesla Model S.

Porsche's parent company Volkswagen has made no secret of its development of fuel cell vehicles, having designed a scalable platform, the MQB, specifically to accept a range of powertrains.

Porsche has already experimented successfully with the potential of electric motors with the Panamera S E-Hybrid and its plug in hybrid 918 Spyder supercar. 918 units of the limited edition 918 Spyder are expected to be delivered in 2015. As a result, expectations will be high for a new all electric car.

When the new model reaches forecourts, Porsche owners ready to dive into the world of electric motoring will find a buyer for their old model at Uber GT.
