Greater London, UK -- (SBWire) -- 04/23/2015 --Honda revealed a hatchback concept said to be a preview the next-generation Civic at last week's New York International Auto Show, and took the opportunity to announce 200 million pounds of investment in its UK manufacturing facilities.

The fifth-generation Civic hatchback is expected in 2018 and is due to be manufactured at Honda's factory in Swindon. While the Japanese firm was reticent on details, the concept's design pointed to an exciting sportier look and feel which could offer a serious challenge to rivals such as the Ford Focus. The standard model Civic will be accompanied by a high-performance Type R specification.

Honda's 200 million pound investment in its UK manufacturing facilities is a major boost to the British automotive industry and will see the Swindon plant become the hub of Civic production for the global market.

Newton Honda is excited by the possibilities offered by the concept and other new Honda offers. 2017 should see the return of the Honda CR-Z sport coupe, while this summer sees the arrival of the latest and fastest Civic Type R yet, which famously beat the Renault Megane 275 Trophy R's record-breaking Nurburgring lap time by more than three seconds.
