Magline Discusses Route Delivery Career Outlook Through 2016

There are currently 18,700 working route delivery drivers in Pennsylvania; this should shrink by 8% to about 17,200 working route delivery drivers in the state by 2016. This is not quite as good as the nation as a whole, where employment opportunities for route delivery drivers are expected to grow by about 4.4%. Route delivery drivers generally drive truck or other vehicle over established routes or within an established territory and sell goods, such as food products, including restaurant take-out items, or pick up, and deliver items, such as laundry.

A person working as a route delivery driver can expect to earn about $10 hourly or $22,450 per year on average in Pennsylvania and about $10 hourly or $22,260 per year on average in the U.S. as a whole. Route delivery drivers that use ergonomic hand trucks save the company on injury expenses and are more productive.
