Ogden, UT -- (SBWire) -- 06/04/2015 --Adam Figueira created Camera Obscura: Alternate Reality for the Classroom to allow photography teachers to capitalize on children's natural love of games and effectively teach about the world around them.  "Gamification takes the principles that make games engaging, positive and effective and applies them to learning," says Figueira.  "It's not the same as giving kids a game that's vaguely related to a subject and asking them to extract relevant lessons.  It's a return to the way humans natively learn:  by figuring things out through experience."  Now, Figueira has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise development and distribution funds for his new program that he believes will use students' natural interest in gamification to help them learn about photography.

According to the creator, a game must be voluntary and have a positive scoring system as well as an engaging story in order to be effective.  Camera Obscura attempts to make the game enjoyable so that learning is simply an integral part of play.  This alternate reality game can be used to teach photography to students in grades 7 to 12 and make education more effective and engaging.  Following a science fiction mystery story through a professionally produced web series as part of an immersive alternate reality game, students will master course content and develop real-world photography skills .  The site also allows peer review of student work.

Located at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/3444921/camera-obscura-alternate-reality-for-the-classroom, the Kickstarter campaign offers pledge levels ranging from $5 to $2,500 and prizes including t-shirts, script copies and even a one-hour video conference with the game's creators.  For more information on the specific prizes associated with each pledge level, please visit the Kickstarter page.
