Isafjordur, Iceland -- (SBWire) -- 06/04/2015 --The objective for the creation of the upcoming non-profit educational marine research station Ísafjörður Subarctic Marine Station (ISAMS) is to contribute to marine and climate change research, provide experiential learning to students, and support sustainable opportunities locally. Alongside his fellow station manager and oceanographer, Mathilde Loubeyres, Michael Honeth is looking to garner support for the creation of a platform where visiting marine researchers, scientists and ecologists will make an impact on arctic ecology by sharing their knowledge.

Michael and Mathilde are also prepared to host local and international students for intensive expeditions, field studies, and study abroad experiences. Student groups and researchers at Ísafjörður Subarctic Marine Station (ISAMS) will have access to unforgettable experiences including, but not limited to:

- Kayak the fjords with whales and seals
- Hike a glacier
- Watch the Northern Lights
- Climb into a volcanic magma chamber

The exciting opportunities offered by Ísafjörður Subarctic Marine Station (ISAMS) will be conducted in partnership with experienced local guides and small businesses. This will not only create employment and sustainable income for the locals, but also make student experiences even more interesting. Ísafjörður Subarctic Marine Station (ISAMS) will also create long-term partnerships with schools, universities, and government organizations.

With commitments from the local university centre, the economic development agency, study abroad travel agencies, and numerous tour operators in Iceland, Michael Honeth and his team are confident about offering students the best value for their travel budget. However, they are in need of funding support to make this project a reality.

Michael Honeth has just started an Indiegogo campaign with the funding target of $100,000. This funding will be spent on the station facility, lab equipment, station vehicle and start-up operating cost.
