Addis Ababa Symphonic Album Homegrown out of Young Woman's Living Room in Africa

Dubai, UAE -- (SBWire) -- 07/11/2015 --A global online collective of musicians will unite for their first real-life meeting and performance at TEDx Addis Ababa on November 28. At the center of the story is Whitney Vandell from Ethiopia, a young musical prodigy adopted at the age of two by an American missionary and music teacher. 'Growing up without pop music the idea of becoming a recording artist never crossed my mind. When my grandparents gave me a MacBook for graduation I discovered how simple it is to record and mix multiple tracks layered on top of each other. Hearing how the music in my head sounds like changed my life', says Whitney.

After pushing the limits of home recording as far as she could, Whitney reached out to professional musicians on Internet forums like Fiverr and Airgigs to help her complete her album. The result is a collection of tracks that defy categorization into any genre or performance style while seamlessly blending everything from classical, rock, hip-hop, and the blues to folk music without pretension or prejudice.

The inspiring story is proof to musicians worldwide that it doesn't matter whom you are or where you are located, all you need to produce a symphonic album with a strings, horns and choir is passion, a laptop and an Internet connection. 'Today, neither borders nor differences in language or culture can keep musicians apart to stop them from realising their dreams! Despite us all being from different worlds and working with oceans between us we came together as if we were all sitting in the same room', says William Stewart, the violinist collaborating on the album.

As a teaser for Whitney's debut album an Android mobile app is now available for free download on Google Play. A mobile app featuring the full album will be offered for sale in August to help raise funds for the musicians' to cover flights from the US, France, Sweden and Dubai' to perform together at TEDx Addis Ababa. How much is raised will determine how many can make it on stage to perform with Whitney after she shares her story with the audience in a short TED talk entitled 'Making Music more Human with Technology'.

'We have never met each other in person but now, with the invitation to perform at the TEDx conference and with your help, we have the chance to realize our fantasy of playing music together in front of a live audience', says Whitney Vandell.
