In a recent issue, Robin K. Cooper reported in the Albany Business Review that Ace Hardware Corp. has been awarded is $3.2 million in tax breaks for its proposed $27.5 million expansion of its retail distribution center in Wilton, NY. The Oakbrook, IL chain constructed an 800,000-square-foot distribution hub in Wilton in 1997 that currently employs 292 people. The Saratoga County Industrial Development Agency approved $1.1 million in sales tax breaks and a $2.1 million property tax abatement over 10 years to help offset the cost of a proposed 400,000-square-foot expansion. The company expects employment will grow to 317 within two years and 327 in four years. The average annual pay for supervisors is $52,500 and material handlers' are paid about $28,000 a year, according to documents filed with the industrial development agency.
