Compounding Pharmacy Services Require Maximum Licensing, Says Provider

Lutz, FL -- (SBWire) -- 08/18/2015 --Recent incidents that question the integrity of compounded drugs administered to subjects in several cities reinforces the need for fuller licensing and fraud control for all such companies, say representatives for AbsoluteRX, a Lutz, Florida based firm and website. The call for tighter approval comes in the wake of cases such as the Moses Lake compounded pharmacy in Washington in late July, who recalled unexpired human and veterinary compounded drugs due to concerns about their sterility. The US government also reached a settlement with a Jacksonville pharmacy in July for $8.4 million, to resolve allegations of unscrupulous practices by that facility.

AbsoluteRX announced it has itself completed approved licensed status in 38 different states, with approval pending in the remaining twelve. It declares companies serving the US market should be those who only use chemicals approved by the FDA, employs "Board Certified Pharmacists, work in an ISO Class-5 Clean Room which boasts technologically advanced tools and equipment, and maintains USP 797 Compliance." Observers of the field agree such standards are needed in light of the increasing importance compounding pharmacies have in serving the consumer health market.

"Many patients require medication that traditional pharmaceutical companies can't provide," says industry expert Dr. William Soliman. "It could be a specific dose, dosage form, discontinued medications or a combination of medications not readily available." According to an industry forecast conducted by Metagadget, "North America dominates the global market for compound medication due to increasing demand of compound pharmacy product in this region." Stronger regulation thus has implications for ensuring the availability of these services nationally, as well as for some international markets.

Some controversy continues over whether state pharmacy boards or the federal FDA should be the main regulator of compounding services, notes AbsoluteRX. One reason for this is existing federal guidelines or laws (such as DQSA) do not apply to veterinary medicine, or compounding done for veterinary purposes. Until FDA finalizes monitoring rules in this area, AbsoluteRX recommends consumers look to the companies that have as comprehensive a licensing approval history as possible before accepting their services. The Florida company welcomes those parties with questions on these compounding pharmacy trends to contact them at 844-338-2200, or 813-999-2700.
