The study revealed that homes can contain more than 2000 different types of fungi, and 7000 types of bacteria, often brought in from outdoors or from the body's skin. Households with pets used in the study contained even more microbes than households that didn't, with over 1200 homes dust samples used in the testing to determine the results.

The next step in the project is to determine how these microbes affect human health, and while microbes can't be avoided due to the nature of them, a dust free environment helps remove any potential exposure to the more dangerous microbes which may lurk in the dust.
