Karnataka, India -- (SBWire) -- 09/24/2015 --SiNApSE, a BananaIP Counsels initiative, conducted a seminar on "How to use Intellectual Property Rights to Build Your Business?" for start-ups in India.

Mr. Sanjeeth Hegde, Partner – BananaIP and the BIP Group, initiated the session by covering the fundamentals of IP for the participants. In the hour long session Mr. Hegde covered the entire realm of IP including patents, trademarks, copyrights, designs, trade secrets, etc.

Next, Mr. Sarthak Saran, Associate Partner – BananaIP, addressed the participants in the second session, covering trademarks. He discussed the significance of trademarks as an intellectual asset. He presented strategies that the participants could employ in using trademarks to build their brands. He further walked the participants through the trademark registration process in India.

Ms. Sharada Kalamadi, Associate Partner – BananaIP, addressed the participants in the third session. She introduced the concept of copyrights and steps involved in obtaining a copyright. She also went on to cover the significance of contracts, confidential information and trade secrets, terms & conditions, & privacy policies for websites.

Mr. Somashekar Ramakrishna, Partner – BananaIP and the BIP Group, took charge of the fourth session titled "Patenting for Businesses". He covered the crucial aspects of what start-ups need to be aware of with respect to protecting and utilizing patents for their business. The entire patent process, timelines, and other strategies were detailed for the participants.

The second to last session of the seminar was conducted by Mr. Nitin Nair, Partner – BananaIP & BIP Group, who discussed patent searching. The session involved live examples where the participants were taught how to effectively search for patents using some simple and generally available tools. Mr. Nair also shed light on patent filing in India and abroad.

Dr.Kalyan C. Kankanala, Managing Partner BananaIP and the BIP Group, presented the concluding session by enlightening the participants on the use of IP as an integral tool in business. He remarked on how IP could serve as an important weapon against counterfeiters and infringers. The strengths and limitations of a right holder were discussed here. The participants were made aware of the extent to which they could restrict competitors by building a safety wall around their business through IP.
