At Member-Guest Tournament, Stauffer conquered Waterfront Country Club's scenic fourth hole with a single stroke, securing this year's award, Smith Mountain Lake Realtor Deborah Beran reports

Moneta, VA -- (SBWire) -- 10/12/2015 --Ben Stauffer picked a great time to score a hole in one at the Waterfront Country Club. A guest of club member Rick Sells, Stauffer used an eight-iron to send his ball from the tee straight into the cup at the par-three fourth hole. That alone would have been an exciting way to start the 2015 Member-Guest tournament, but Stauffer also took home $5,000 for the perfect shot, thanks to a hole-in-one sponsorship from Smith Mountain Lake real estate agent Deborah Beran. Beran has sponsored the tournament in this way for years, and Stauffer's prize was delivered through contest insurance arranged by Wes Cothran of Cothran Insurance in Lynchburg, VA.

One of the only PGA-championship-class layouts in the region, the golf course at Moneta's Waterfront Country Club comprises 18 holes that taken together stretch over 6684 yards from the back tees. With separate divisions for men and women, the club's annual Member-Guest Tournament is one of its biggest events every year, seeing golfers competing as twosomes to take home trophies and other prizes.

This year's tournament opened on June 6 with a flyover by a number of local pilots, creating an early air of celebration that held up well over the two days of golf that followed. A bagpiper also played his way down the eighteenth fairway in a nod to the sport's Scottish origins, further contributing to the special atmosphere of the event.

Likely the most exciting moment of all, though, happened with Stauffer's perfect shot on the 150-yard fourth hole. Lined with gorgeous villas owned by members, the fourth is one of the course's most recognizable and beautiful holes, making for a fitting setting for such a momentous shot.

Having sponsored hole-in-one prizes for both the men's and women's Member-Guest Tournaments for many years, local Realtor Beran was thrilled to award this year's to Stauffer. Statistics show that the average amateur golfer has only around a one in 12,000 chance of scoring a perfect '1' on a given par-three hole, making these accomplishments some of the rarest in the world of sports.
