Turmeric a Potential Solution to Reduce the Increasing Prevalence of Alzheimer's Disease

Orlando, FL -- (SBWire) -- 12/07/2015 --Brain-related ailments, such as Alzheimer's disease, have become one of the world's biggest health concerns. To address these health problems, people resort to different measures just to improve their immunity against diseases, and this includes the use of spices such as turmeric.

Turmeric is believed to be a potential solution to reduce the increasing prevalence of Alzheimer's disease. This spice has long been studied due to the therapeutic properties it contains. There are many health benefits associated with the use of turmeric, especially in brain health.

"Turmeric contains curcumin, which is a phytochemical that has antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and other therapeutic properties," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

In a recent study involving three individuals with Alzheimer's disease, it was found that the use of turmeric has remarkably improved the symptoms suffered by the participants. According to researchers, the participants who took less than a gram of turmeric on a daily basis for three months experienced significant reduction in the severe behavioral symptoms they were suffering from.

The participants of the study all suffered from Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD). They also suffered from the severe behavioral symptoms of Alzheimer's disease such as apathy, agitation, anxiety, and irritability. There was even one subject who experienced some improvements in his inability to hold urine.

In the study conducted by researchers from Japan, it was found that turmeric was also helpful. The study involved a 12-week turmeric consumption for three individuals. It was found that the participants achieved a significant reduction in the acute symptoms. The burden suffered by the caregivers of the subjects also reduced.

The study entitled "Effects of Turmeric on Alzheimer's Disease With Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia" was published in the Ayu journal. The brief excerpts of the study revealed that prescribing turmeric capsules may potentially help individuals with Alzheimer's recover from the behavioral symptoms.

In one case study, there was an 83-year-old woman who previously suffered from progressive dementia, and was having short-term memory since she was 76 years old. She also experienced certain difficulties such as in concentrating or doing household chores. Most of all, she experienced the adverse effects of BPSD. After receiving turmeric treatment for 13 weeks, the participant experienced significant health improvements. After a 1-year treatment, she was able to recognize her family and did not experience AD and BPSD symptoms.

Today, curcumin supplements are widely available in the market. Most of the best curcumin supplements contain a black pepper extract called BioPerine, which is a bioavailability enhancing ingredient (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI/).
