Turmeric Has the Potential to Fight HPV

Orlando, FL -- (SBWire) -- 03/09/2016 --The human papillomavirus (HPV) is extremely common especially in the United States. It is considered to be the most common sexually transmitted virus and has 100 types. While there are medications available for the condition, there are natural remedies such as turmeric that are thought to be helpful for sufferers.

Turmeric is believed to have the potential to fight HPV. Turmeric is obtained from Curcuma longa, which is a perennial plant. It is native to Southern Asia and comes in a yellow light orange color. It is thought to offer a myriad of health benefits.

"Experts suggest that most of the therapeutic effects of the spice come from its phytochemical called curcumin," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

Curcumin contains several therapeutic substances including anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Today, people can take advantage of the spice's healing effects through the use of curcumin supplements.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, HPV affects 50 percent of people in the United States who are sexually active. Experts suggest that 30 types of the condition can increase a person's risk of vaginal and cervical cancer.

While genital warts may develop, the infection is thought to be asymptomatic. Medications and surgery are available for the condition. However, supplements such as turmeric are also thought to be helpful in fighting infection.

In 2011, a study was published in the "Moleular Carcinogenesis" journal, and it reveals that the curcumin in turmeric has the potential to reduce HPV oncoproteins expression as well as to induce the apoptosis of the cancer cells. Apoptosis is otherwise known as programmed cell death. The study also added that it has the potential improve the expression of proteins that suppress tumors.

In May 2006, the same journal published another study that reaffirm the antitumor and anticancer properties o curcumin against the cervical cancer cell lines associated with HPV. While more studies are still underway to clinical prove the benefits of the phytochemical against the condition, curcumin supplements have gained the popularity over the years due to its therapeutic effects.

Curcumin supplements have become extremely popular in the market due to the healing effects they could potentially offer. Turmeric has been used for thousands of years in fighting a range of medical conditions, especially in the traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine.

Today, the most preferred curcumin supplements are those that contain a bioavailability-enhancing ingredient called BioPerine. This is a black pepper extract believed to help improve the delivery of the therapeutic properties of curcumin inside the human body (amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI/).
