The Radio Agency Says "Men Change Channels at 33"

Media, PA -- (SBWire) -- 03/15/2016 --Citing Spotify research, Mark Lipsky, founder and head of The Radio Agency, said in a recent article that men make major changes in how they absorb music at age 33. Specifically, they largely cease to take in new discoveries, and embrace "the music of their teens and 20s," said Lipsky. The owner of the firm specializing in radio spot advertising noted that men who entered their teens at the turn of the 21st century fit into that demographic today, which means radio stations can appease their interests by focusing on music that was popular in the early 2000s.

Lipsky expanded upon Spotify's research to mention that men in their early to mid-30s also tend to spend more time with spoken word formats, such as news, talk, sports and non-AM/FM options. "That's great news for advertisers, as radio listeners who choose spoken word formats are more likely to be 'active listeners' that engage with programming content," said Lipsky. Those types of listeners contrast with people who passively hear music formats, and typically cannot recall the songs being played. Those listeners are less likely to pay attention to commercial advertising.

Finally, Lipsky went on to say that men in their 30s tend to be in the midst of making major life changes, such as getting married, buying homes and starting families. Advertisers should keep that information in mind when determining what types of advertising content is relevant to them.
