The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey Releases Domestic Violence and Gambling Survey

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWire) -- 06/21/2016 --The Council of Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ), a non-profit that offers support, treatment and hope for gambling problems in Atlantic City and elsewhere in the state, recently released a survey that seeks to understand more about the link between disordered gambling and domestic violence. The Council encourages New Jersey residents to respond to the survey here.

The survey consists of nine questions, which include whether the respondents have experienced abuse, whether abuse is correlated with domestic violence, whether gambling has affected their relationship with partners, and similar queries. The questions are designed to deepen the Council's understanding of how gambling and domestic violence are interrelated. The Council currently has several resources on its website on how problem gambling can lead to abusive behavior towards a gambler's partner or other family members, as well as how abusive situations at home can lead to gambling addiction as an escape tactic. By releasing the survey, the Council hopes to garner information that will improve its services to problem gamblers and their loved ones.

Disordered gambling is a chronic illness, and like any chronic illness, it must be treated by professionals. The CCGNJ can help NJ residents who are struggling with their own, or a loved one's, gambling addiction find the help that they need. Disordered gambling, often referred to as a hidden addiction, is a problem that many sufferers find difficulty seeking help for due to its social stigma. If the gambler or their loved one is experiencing a co-occurring problem like domestic violence, it may become even more of a difficult task to find the right professional resources for help and guidance. But by calling 1-800-GAMBLER, the CCGNJ's 24/7 confidential gambling help line, problem gamblers and their loved ones in Atlantic City and elsewhere an access professional help from inpatient treatment centers, Gamblers Anonymous meetings and other proven resources.
