Researchers Reveal Potentially Therapeutic Effects of Curcumin on Pain Associated with Muscle Soreness

Orlando, FL -- (SBWire) -- 08/16/2016 --Pain is one of the most undesirable consequences of suffering from certain conditions. There are many pain medications available nowadays. However, the use of natural alternatives such as curcumin is becoming more and more popular, especially among arthritis sufferers.

Researchers reveal the potentially therapeutic effects of curcumin on pain associated with muscle soreness. Curcumin is a phytochemical believed to offer a myriad of health benefits. It can be found in the ancient spice called turmeric.

In Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine, turmeric has been used for thousands of years to help fight a range of conditions. It is all-natural and safe to use. Today, many people take advantage of its potential benefits through curcumin supplementation.

"Curcumin supplements with piperine are extremely popular nowadays," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

Curcumin is believed to contain anti-carcinogenic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. The use of this phytochemical is believed to be extremely helpful to individuals who suffer from conditions such as arthritis.

A double-blind, randomized-controlled study was published in the European Journal of Applied Physiology in March 2015. The study reveals that curcumin has the potential to reduce pain associated with delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS).

Curcumin is also thought to help in muscle recovery among those who are physically active. In the study, the researchers tried to determine if curcumin could positively impact DOMS. It also aimed to see if it has an effect on individuals who engage in single-leg jump performance.

The study involved 17 male participants who took 2.5 grams of curcumin twice a day. During the trial period, the researchers monitored the post-exercise limb pain, muscle swelling, and other signs of muscle damage and inflammation suffered by the participants.

The researchers reveal that curcumin helped reduce pain caused by single-leg squats, gluteal stretches, and squat jumps. The phytochemical is also believed to reduce creatine kinase activity. When the creatine kinase is increased in the bloodstream, it has the potential to cause muscle damage.

It was found that the participants who took curcumin performed better in single-leg jumps. According to researchers, it could be because of the potential anti-inflammatory effects of curcumin.

Curcumin supplements are widely available for individuals who want to take advantage of the potential benefits of the phytochemical. There are supplements that do not only contain curcumin but also piperine.

Piperine is a black pepper extract that is believed to contain bioavailability-enhancing activity. It is believed to make supplements potentially therapeutic by increasing the delivery of curcumin inside the body. (http://amazon.com/tumeric-curcumin-with-piperine/dp/B00JA4TLTI)
