Security Experts Reveal Electronic Pickpocketing Is the Next Big Threat in Credit Card Fraud

Manchester, NH -- (SBWire) -- 08/24/2016 --Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes worldwide. This type of fraud can victimized anyone and it won't even take professional criminals to have it committed.

Security experts reveal that electronic pickpocketing is the next big threat in credit card fraud. Today, more and more people are being victimized by thieves. Unfortunately, it seems that consumers continue to be defenseless against them.

According to the police, identity theft cases doubled from 2012 to 2013. Organized criminals are getting even smarter in taking advantage of unsuspecting credit card holders.

In a study conducted by the financial security firm Veda, it was found that in Australia, credit application fraud is at its highest level since 2009. The company believes that this is due to the improving technical skills of organized criminals.

Unfortunately, it has become quite easy to commit such a crime. Anyone can purchase inexpensive card skimming devices and use it for fraudulent purposes.

Ken Lay, Victoria Police Chief Commissioner, reveals that in 2014, 11,600 credit card deceptions took place, which ate an enormous amount of police resources.

There are credit cards that are considered to be contactless. They are named as such because they don't require a signature or PIN, which many thieves take advantage of. It is believed that contactless cards are almost always susceptible to hacking.

These cards are equipped with radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology, which can be easily hacked by thieves. Most of the credit card information is encrypted. However, it is the card number and expiry date that are susceptible to thieves.

According to Brian Hay, detective inspector from Queensland Police fraud and cybercrime squad, electronic pick pockets can simply stand a few feet away from their victims to commit the crime. Their card skimming device can read and scan credit card information.

Being in crowded places such as airports, subways, or elevators can make one susceptible to identity thieves. Credit cards can be cloned by simply being close to thieves. Fraudsters often take thousands worth of debt in the name of their victims and with the use of the stolen information.

The good news is that there are products such as the set of RFID blocking sleeves believed to be helpful in fighting fraudsters. These sleeves are designed to block card skimming devices, so consumers can safely travel in subways or go to crowded places without being vulnerable to thieves.

The RFID blocking sleeves can be purchased at amazon.com. (http://amazon.com/rfid-blocking-sleeves/dp/B0150T0AI2)
