Ivyland, PA -- (SBWire) -- 01/10/2017 --While facing many obstacles and overcoming them, Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation is proud to look back at the successes of 2016. Because of all of the support and donations they received this past year, they were able to move further towards their goal of curing the CRB1 degenerative retinal eye disease! All of their backing and dedication has helped propel them forward into 2017 with the hope that this will be the year the cure is discovered.

Among their many successes, is Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation's partnership with The Mighty: a story-based health community. The Mighty's goal is to bring people together who are struggling, so as to build camaraderie and share courage. Nothing is faced alone while these two organizations are paired together.

Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation also held their 6th annual Bike the Basin fundraiser event, marking it as their biggest and most successful one to date. While there were multiple riding options for people of all ages, there were also participants across the globe, biking in support to cure this retinal disease. Everyone who shared in this summer event not only helped fund the cause, but enjoyed themselves.

All in all, 2016 was a year filled with fulfillment. In February, the Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation were able to present for the introduction of a resolution (H.Resolution #625), declaring the 28th as National Rare Eye Disease Awareness Day. This resolution was both in print and in Braille - the first of its kind. History was made that day, and perhaps, 2017 will continue along the same path.

The Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation was founded by families with CRB1 patients including Kristin and Mike Smedley, parents of two children diagnosed with Leber's congenital amaurosis, a rare eye disease that causes blindness in childhood. Undeterred by this challenge, the Smedley family recruited help from other affected families and founded the Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation.
