CCGNJ Offers Helpful Information for Celebrating Chinese New Year

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWire) -- 02/27/2017 --The Chinese New Year, the start of another lunar year, is marked by a lengthy two weeks of celebration. The Year of the Rooster, the 10th sign of the 12-year Chinese Zodiac, began on Jan. 28 and festivities will last until Feb. 2. The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ), devoted to helping people with a gambling problem find help, offers safe insight for celebrating the Chinese New Year.

During this two-week time of celebrating the most important cultural and religious holiday, many people gamble as a pastime. Some common games that are played include mahjong, bau cua, rummy, chor dai di, ngau and poker. These games are played by family and friends in their homes and out in casinos. Over a two-week period, losses can add up and cause financial difficulty.

The CCGNJ is there to help those struggling with a gambling problem and provide inroads to successful recovery. This non-profit organization offers information such as brochures and fact sheets, prevention programs, intervention, outreach, treatment and training for professionals.

Whether it is unhealthy gambling for the Chinese New Year or continually losing money by going to a casino and gambling in Atlantic City, the CCGNJ is there to help individuals receive the help and treatment they need to break their addiction.

"We want to raise awareness about gambling addiction no matter the situation and help people begin a new year with the help they need," said CCGNJ Executive Director Neva Pryor.

The CCGNJ can be reached by calling their 24/7 hotline at 1-800-GAMBLER or visiting them online at http://800gambler.org/. Friends, family and those struggling with problematic gambling are all welcomed to use the hotline and communicate through the CCGNJ's online chat feature. This organization invites individuals to start the Chinese New Year off on the road to recovery.
