District Attorney Matthew Weintraub Introduces Six Detective Strike Force

Bucks County, PA -- (SBWire) -- 09/06/2017 --District Attorney Matthew Weintraub will add six detectives to his team, dedicated to investigate what Weintraub referred to as, high-level drug dealers. These six detectives will be part of Weintraub's "Six Detective Strike Force," and will be supervised by one of his current detectives. The strike force's goal will be to investigate any leads regarding minor or major drug trafficking rings prevalent throughout Bucks County.

Unfortunately, the opioid/heroin epidemic touches everywhere in Bucks County from Andalusia to Riegelsville. 89 deaths were reported in 2012, and that number more than doubled in 2016. In fact, the death toll for 2017 is on target to shatter previous records. Although law enforcement officials have saved nearly 300 lives with Naloxone, the number of overdoses continues to rise.

For the past few years, education measures, prevention and treatment programs, and new laws have been enacted as part of the overall strategy developed to tackle this crisis. Even though these efforts are helping, they are not solving the problem.

District Attorney Matthew Weintraub firmly believes more law enforcement resources could make a big dent on the supply of illegal opioids into the county. "The strike force's sole mission is to go after the drug dealers," said Weintraub. "If that means following evidence outside our jurisdiction, so be it. We'll go wherever we need to find and prosecute these people."

With this dedicated task force, Weintraub will also be able to allow the rest of his staff to focus on investigating other criminal activity occurring throughout Bucks County.
