Framingham, MA -- (SBWire) -- 09/06/2017 --Punchbowl.org Environmental Fund, Inc. (Punchbowl.org) today announced Catalog Choice as the recipient of an environmental grant, the first given by Punchbowl.org since its launch in 2016. The amount was not disclosed.

Catalog Choice, operated by The Story of Stuff Project, is a free online service that helps consumers opt-out of unwanted catalogs and other paper junk mail. Since its inception in 2007, the site has helped millions of people reduce clutter and simplify life by stopping junk mail for good. Even better, those users have kept over a million trees in the ground, a billion pounds of CO2 out of the atmosphere, and tons and tons of paper waste out of landfills. The grant will be used to improve reporting tools and increase compliance by corporations that send unwanted mail.

"Thanks to the generous support of Punchbowl.org, we can continue to provide the public with a convenient and easy platform for opting out of unwanted junk mail," said Michael O'Heaney, Executive Director, The Story of Stuff Project.

Every year, companies produce millions of tons of paper for products that consumers no longer want or need. Punchbowl.org exists to help educate people about the harmful environmental impact of this practice, offer solutions to reduce consumption, and significantly decrease the production of wasteful paper products.

"We're thrilled to be able to award a grant in our first year," said Stephanie Fader, Executive Director, Punchbowl.org. "Catalog Choice perfectly aligns with the vision for Punchbowl.org — a world where unwanted and obsolete paper and paper-products are eliminated."

In addition to its first grant, Punchbowl.org also announced today that it seeks to expand its Board of Directors with one or two new members. The ideal candidate will have professional experience in business, technology, the environment, or the nonprofit sector as well as a passion and commitment to help improve the environment.

Punchbowl.org was born out of the company and team that created the online invitations site Punchbowl.com. The company creates best-in-class digital solutions for the celebrations market and is passionate about how innovation can impact the world. This new charitable initiative enables the company to leverage the digital platform they have built to enact change that will positively help the environment.
