Boulder, CO -- (SBWire) -- 10/27/2017 --Noted Turkish American artist Belgin Yucelen is featured in two upcoming group shows - the Metamorphosis Show presented at the Core New Art Space in Denver, and organized by the Women's Caucus for Art Colorado; and INTERSTATE: Where I-90 meets I-82, a national juried exhibition at the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery at Central Washington State University in Ellsberg, Washington.

Belgin Yucelen is a sculptor, installation artist, and printmaker. Her bronze sculptures focus mainly on the human form, and one of the installations that she is currently working on, entitled Clothes from Past Centuries, recreates clothing worn by women and children living in Turkey under Ottoman rule. Yucelen is a 2017 Fellow of the Clark Hulings Fund for Visual Artists. In Denver, the show focuses on the theme of metamorphosis, the "profound change in form from one state to the next." Yucelen's sculpture in the show, "Who am I?" pictured above, features a woman gazing into a mirror showing an image of a small girl, confronting the metamorphosis of a person as they age. "My work is driven by philosophical ideas, humanistic concepts, current debates, and history," Belgin says. "I do a lot of research and reading on specific topics throughout the design and creation phases." The opening reception for the Metamorphosis Show will take place Friday, October 27 from 5 – 9 PM at the Core New Art Space at 900 Santa Fe Drive in Denver, CO 80204.

In Washington state, INTERSTATE: Where I-90 meets I-82 will feature Yucelen's sculpture "Oracle" (pictured at https://belginyucelen.com/sculptures/, third in slideshow). "Oracle" depicts a priestess of the Temple of Apollo and is part of a series of nine bronze sculptures united by the theme of Time. "Oracle was the name of any priestess at the Temple of Apollo in Greece who would talk about future events." Belgin explains. "She used to sit upon a tripod so as not to fall into the chasm. This sculpture was part of the exhibition titled A Journey in Time intended to motivate the viewer to make the most of time before it is too late, to be more present and aware." Opening events for INTERSTATE: Where I-90 meets I-82 are on Thursday, November 5, at the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery at the University of Central Washington, Department 400, East 8th Avenue, Ellensburg, Washington 98926, and include a lecture at 4 PM followed by a reception in the gallery from 5-7 PM.
