Phoenix, AZ -- (SBWire) -- 01/25/2018 --Task Force 7 Radio host George Rettas recently interviewed Dr. Magda Chelly to define the problem with attracting women into the cyber security space and discuss what professionals need to do moving forward to solve the dilemma that is driving the cyber security talent crisis across the globe.

Dr. Chelly, a world-renowned cyber security leader, gave a very intellectual and blunt assessment about the cyber security talent crisis by stating that "today the situation is quite sad because only 11 percent" of cyber security positions are occupied by female professionals. Dr. Chelly notes that "most all of the positions today in Cyber Security are male dominated positions".

When Rettas asked Dr. Chelly to help define the root cause of this problem, she opined that many unconscious biases exist in the Cyber Security space, noting "because the role requires the presence that might be beyond the 9 to 5 hours there is the perception that this will not be compatible with her lifestyle or demands. It's about giving women the opportunity to do what they are good at. We cannot assume…through traditional thinking what a woman would be capable of doing."

She said for instance, "if we are talking about institutions...one thing that I have found in my research… is that unfortunately a lot of people have this unconscious bias that if a woman enters a meeting with cyber security professionals she is probably a sales person and not the technical person. That's the wrong perception."

Dr. Chelly said that one of her main goals is to "encourage more diversity and inclusion in the industry". Dr. Chelly speaks five languages, has a Doctorate in Telecommunications, Informatics, and Electronics, and she is the Managing Director of Responsible Cyber.
