For the second year in a row, Chris Fiorentini of Fiorentini Family Dentistry joined the “Healthy Athletes” initiative to bring special wellness services and education to all athletes competing in the 50th Special Olympics of New Jersey.

Monroe Township, NJ -- (SBWire) -- 06/18/2018 --For the second year in a row, Chris Fiorentini of Fiorentini Family Dentistry joined the "Healthy Athletes" initiative to bring special wellness services and education to all athletes competing in the 50th Special Olympics of New Jersey. In just two days, over 350 athletes received dental screenings, mouth guard fabrication and oral hygiene instruction as part of the Special Smiles program set up and coordinated by Fiorentini.

Over the weekend of June 8-10th, The College of New Jersey became the competing grounds for over 2,500 athletes participating in everything from track & field events, swimming, weightlifting, gymnastics and more. A spectacular Opening Ceremony on Friday kicked off an incredible event as athletes lapped the track, waving to a fan-packed stadium and receiving high fives from local police officers before the lighting of the Olympic Torch and firework display.

By early Saturday morning, it was time to get to work. As athletes competed in their events, the "Healthy Athletes" initiative was busy providing a variety of services, such as eye, foot and ear exams, nutrition and fitness counseling, wellness checkups, emotional counseling and most importantly dental services, for all competitors.

Fiorentini helped organize the event's unique dental program, called Special Smiles. He was joined by nearly 40 other dentists, dental students, dental assistants, hygienists, and hygiene students to help educate athletes on proper oral hygiene and various health issues, as well as create mouthguards and conduct dental screenings to detect caries and other diseases.
