Shenzhen, Guangdong -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/01/2018 -- On the first day of Mobile World Congress, Samsung released its two flagship Android devices for 2018: The Samung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. Both devices are featuring the same Snapdragon 845 processor (or Exynos 9810 in the international version), IP68 water and dust resistance rating and Android Oreo. The 5.8-inch Galaxy S9 comes with a 12-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization whereas the S9 plus features a dual-camera system with a wide-angle 12-megapixel sensor.

Last year's Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus didn't have many differences other than the screen and battery size. But this year, Samsung is taking a different approach to the company's flagship devices. Looking at the spec sheet, one should notice that the Galaxy S9 Plus is significantly more powerful than the Galaxy S9 as the S9 Plus features a dual-camera system and more RAM. With those differences in specs, Samsung is aiming at two different groups of customers. People who want the flagship experience but want to pay less for that can go for the S9. And the S9 Plus is for enthusiastic Samsung fans who want the best experience from Samsung.

This year Samsung's flagships are mainly about iteration and it's for sure that there wouldn't be big surprises from this generation of the Galaxy S lineup. The biggest updates are found in the processors of both devices and the camera on the S9 Plus. The Snapdragon 845 chipset from Qualcomm is reportedly a big leap forward from the Snapdragon 835 last year and it's still one of the most powerful CPU for smartphones. So the performance of the Galaxy S9 is supposedly better than the S8. The 4G RAM on the S9 is the same as the S8. But on the S9 Plus, it's 6GB, which would allow the S9 Plus to run more apps at the same time. Also Samsung is taking the camera on the S9 Plus to a whole new level by giving it a dual-camera setup which is the same as the Galaxy Note 8 last year. And it's for the first time ever that the Galaxy S lineup features dual cameras

Other than the top-notch specs, the screen on the S9 still remains as one of the best, if not the best, screens among the industry. It's a screen that's good enough to watch all kinds of HD videos, even Blu-ray as long as they have the right software to help them convert Blu-ray movies to MP4 or other compatible formats. According to Samsung, customers can pre-order both devices on March 2 and they will be available for sale on March 16.
