Dieting website cabbage soup diet has released an updated version of the popular weight loss plan for 2012.
San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/28/2012 -- Diet and weight loss website Cabbage Soup Diet introduced a new version of the popular 7-day weight loss plan on its website this week. The site’s team hopes that the new version of the cabbage soup diet will be healthier, easier and more effective than past incarnations.
According to site head Jason Feldman, MS, RD, a Registered Dietitian, explains why a revamped version of the diet was needed: “Our website received several questions a day about the cabbage soup diet. Although we always try to provide comprehensive content, there are some aspects of the diet that seem to be a sticking point for many. Since our launch in 2009, our three most common questions are related to minimizing hunger, increasing efficacy and minimizing health risk. The new cabbage soup diet that we created aims to alleviate these concerns from dieter’s minds by making the diet more pleasant to follow, more effective and healthier than the original version.”
What particular changes were made to the diet to address these common concerns? Feldman notes that the addition of more dietary protein was one crucial change to the cabbage soup diet has it helped make the diet easier to stick to and resulted in increased weight loss. Feldman states that, ” The original cabbage soup diet was very low in dietary protein. According to our calculations the diet only provided approximately .6 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight –significantly less than the recommended minimum of .8 gmsra per kilogram. Low protein diets have a laundry list of potential drawbacks, including weakness, muscle loss and increased appetite. That’s why the new version of the cabbage soup diet plan aims to provide people with at least 1 gram of protein for every kilogram of body weight. This amount of daily protein was based on a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association which found that higher than normal protein intake facilitated appetite reduction and weight loss.”
How are modern-day cabbage soup dieters expected to add more protein to their cabbage soup? Feldman states that the new cabbage soup diet recipe includes more protein from heart-healthy sources such as lean cuts of chicken breast, low-fat beef and legumes. Vegetarians also have the option to include tofu as a healthy source of complete protein, the site adds.
